Training Videos

What these videos are
These two video files (click on them below) distill a 6-hour REACH Forgiveness group conducted by me in a Christian setting (at Southwest Baptist University) into two hours of training.

How we train new leaders
We use these to train new group leaders. They watch the videos (together with other potential leaders or alone) and write questions that might arise. Then, the trainer will answer questions. If several leaders are being trained, the most efficient way is to do this as a group.

Supervision
When non-professionals lead the groups, we like to provide supervision by some experienced leader—either a person with formal training in helping or counseling, a pastor, or a trained and experienced group leader.

Who can lead the groups?
We believe that, because most of the work on forgiveness happens as people work through the exercises with their within-group conversation partner, the leader does not need to be a trained professional. In studies, we have found that post-MS degree trained professionals have slightly better outcomes than pre-BS lay people—but the difference is not great.

Just in case
No negative reactions have been reported by people going through the groups (because we encourage people to tackle events that are not so severe that they need the attention of a psychotherapist). However, it is a good idea to have a clear referral pathway to mental health treatment just in case.
